By this point gambling had become an accepted part of life for many people despite strong opposition from religious organisations who viewed it as promoting vice or immoral behaviour.
The twentieth century saw a huge rise in popularity of land-based casinos due to technological advancements such as electricity and air conditioning making them more comfortable places to visit.
